The group was formed in 1981 by Mrs Tina Curtis who gathered friends and colleagues to take sick and disabled patients from the Heath Hospital (now known as the University Hospital of Wales, UHW) in Cardiff to Lourdes. It took nearly two years to raise the funds needed with the first trip to Lourdes in 1983. Since then, HHLG has been able to take guests and pilgrims to Lourdes over 25 times. Over the years the group has gone from strength to strength and has taken approximately 400 guests on a variety of trips and outings and a total of 1000 people have been involved with the group since its beginnings.

In 1994 the group became a registered charity which was a significant milestone and a true reflection of the importance and amount of hard work and opportunities that the group continues to provide to this day.

HHLG does not only take guests to Lourdes. The variety of activities that are put on throughout the year reflects the wide range of guests and members that we provide for. Day trips, overnight stays, or an afternoon picnic are all examples of what we do. All the funds for the group are gathered by donations (both large and small) from local communities, parishes and schools and a variety of fundraising events held throughout the year. We have also received National Lottery funding in the past.

Fundraising activities by our committee and volunteers include sponsored events, gala balls, summer parties, fashion-shows....the list is endless. Have a look at our events page for our up and coming fundraisers. All committee members and helpers are unpaid and dedicate vast amounts of their time and effort to ensure that HHLG continues to go from strength to strength.

If you think that you would be able to contribute to the group in any way such as helper; fundraiser or sponsor, please get in touch - we would love to hear from you.
