First Rise To The Challenge....Man V Horse Marathon
16.06.2011 - published by HHLG
Last Saturday, Mark Thomas took part in the Man V Horse Marathon in Llanwrtyd Wells. It was extremely grueling, made all the more difficult from the rain over the past few weeks not to mention the downpour at the start of the race - this made the going "soft and squidgy in places" according to the event organizer.
Thanks to the "soft and squidgy course", Mark was caked in mud just prior to wading across the River Irfon before finishing in a time of 2hrs 57min 24sec. Unfortunately he wasn't quite quick enough to beat the horse over the full 22 miles but Mark did get past the first checkpoint of 7.75 miles before they caught him - a fantastic effort!
Overall Mark was placed 77th from a total field of 474 participants (made up of horses, relay teams and individual runners). Of the runners, he was placed 60th, and discounting the relay teams, was the 39th individual to cross the finish line.
Mark's efforts as part of HHLG's Sponsored Challenge 2011 has raised over £350!! A massive well done and thank you go to Mark from everyone at HHLG.
